Race recap - The Glass CIty Marathon - Sunday Half marathon

Sunday was the half marathon. I really had ZERO goals going into the race. I honestly just wanted to survive the race. I was not sure if I could come in under 2 hours because I had not run more than 9 miles (well, 9.3 I guess) since early February. But Molly convinced me that 1:50 was probably doable... and it slowly morphed from there. In the end, we decided that we were just going to start conservative and progress faster as we went through the race.

My alarm went off at 5 am. I got up, got dressed, and started my coffee. Molly was just waking up as well.
After my coffee was brewed, she brewed a second cup for herself, and we settled onto the couch and ate and talked about how we were nervous. Molly has also struggled a bit with running (and especially racing) since Chicago. I can relate, as anyone who has read this will know.

We were scheduled to meet Jes and the other local birds for a picture at 6:30. Luckily for us, Jes works on UT's campus (which is where you park and where the start and finish line is) and so we met near her office, and then we were able to get into her office for a quick real bathroom break before heading over to the start line.
Molly and I lined up in corral A, right in front of the 1:50 pacer. She found someone she knew from her hometown who was planning to run a 1:50. We chatted with him and lined up with him. The start took a little while because there were some planes in the flight path of the helicopter that was scheduled to fly over the starting line. Eventually they gave up and just started the race. We started conservatively, our first mile was 8:40 and we picked it up almost right away.
Splits and official results are above. I am really pleased with the progression that we did through the race. I never once felt like there was a mile that was completely out of my control. I definitely had moments that hurt more than others, but overall, I felt strong throughout this run. I am SO PROUD that we were able to do this.
We look so happy.
